Here it is: the inaugural post! I’d like to kick-off this blog, which I’ll be using to chronicle my adventures, successes, failures, embarrassments, and joys in the U.S Peace Corps.
In October 2011, after a grueling application process, I was invited to serve in Botswana as an NGO Capacity Builder working on an HIV/AIDS Capacity Building project. My assignment is 27 months long – beginning in April 2012 and ending in June 2014.
While I’ve been relatively calm about my imminent departure, I do experience occasional moments of absolute spazzing. One such moment occurred several days ago, when I realized that I leave for Botswana in SEVEN weeks. Bah! I’ve been working towards this and thinking about this for so long that I’m not quite sure it’s fully hit me that I’ll be in Botswana with the Peace Corps in less than two months. Insane.
I’m having a great time at home, though, researching Botswana, packing, working for an awesome company with amazing people, hanging out with my family, stocking up on music and movies from iTunes, buying a ton of eBooks off of Amazon, and spending quality time with my friends. Here’s hoping these trends continue smoothly throughout my final seven weeks in the States!
Omg June 2014?! There is going to be so much that I will miss doing with you!
I am in Bots-10 and will be there to meet you guys when you land in Gabs. I love the name of your blog, it is perfect for Botswana. I don’t know if you know it but the batswana use the term “other side” all the time when they are trying to indicate where something is.
Hi Marion! Ha! I had no idea that’s how the Batswana use the term “other side.” That’s fantastic. I look forward to meeting you in a couple of weeks!
